It’s another exciting year for NOVO Dental Centre as we have once again partnered with the Vancouver Bandits, formally known as the Fraser Valley Bandits. If you haven’t heard of this wonderful group, they are a Canadian professional basketball team, based in Langley who compete in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

Anyone who knows Dr. Provo knows that her passion for basketball has not waned since the time she was a teenager. As a matter of fact, she can still be found regularly on the court challenging her son to a spirited game of one-on-one!

It’s this passion that cultivated NOVO’s drive to support youth sports in our community. Partnering with the Vancouver Bandits was an easy decision as this amazing group of individuals core values are so in line with NOVO Dental Centre’s.

We are both big believers in the importance of community youth sports because of the valuable lifelong benefits team activities offer children. Sports provides children with an outlet to burn energy, opportunities for character development, strengthens muscles and bones, creates a supportive social circle, teaches them how to work within a team and exposes them to positive role models to look up to in their coaches and managers.

With approximately 376 children attending this small school, the principal, Faye Christy, and teacher/coach, David Epp were so excited by the combined gift from NOVO Dental Centre and the Vancouver Bandits.

As with any community there are many levels of economic demographics. It isn’t always financially affordable for families to enroll their children into organized sports. So how do we support and provide opportunities for every child to be able to participate??

The Vancouver Bandits have been working on a number of ongoing brilliant projects that extend from the Fraser Valley to Metro Vancouver. Their goal is to build or restore existing basketball courts and to provide proper hoops, rims and nets making basketball more accessible to both communities and schools.

How NOVO became involved was the opportunity to provide the needed basketballs to complete one of the projects. Recently, we were part of the presentation to John Maclure Elementary, a school in our neighbourhood who was in desperate need of a refurbishment.

The school’s, Thunder Basketball Club in particular, were absolutely thrilled with the prospect of receiving new basketballs and proper hoops to practice and host future games with other elementary school teams!

Though, I think we all agreed that highlight of the entire visit was the overwhelming response, Vancouver Bandits team mascot, Berry received from all the children who were so excited they could barely contain themselves!!
